About the Role:
As Deputy Nursery Manager, you will support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day running of the setting, ensuring the smooth operation of all rooms and services. You will drive the effective implementation of the EYFS curriculum, uphold safeguarding standards, and act as a key point of contact for staff, parents, and external stakeholders. Your leadership will directly influence the nursery’s culture, quality of provision, and readiness for Ofsted inspection.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Nursery Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring all rooms run smoothly and efficiently.
* Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the EYFS curriculum to ensure high-quality learning experiences for all children.
* Supervise, coach, and motivate staff, including conducting regular supervisions, appraisals, and performance reviews.
* Ensure robust safeguarding and child protection practices are implemented, monitored, and consistently followed by all staff.
* Maintain strong, professional communication with parents and carers, managing enquiries, concerns, and feedback effectively.
* Assist with Ofsted inspection readiness, including maintaining accurate records, policies, and documentation in line with regulatory requirements.
* Oversee day-to-day administrative tasks such as staff rotas, attendance records, and nursery documentation.
* Support budgeting and resource management, ensuring appropriate allocation and effective use of materials, equipment, and staffing.
Key Requirements:
* Proven experience in a senior role within an early years setting, such as Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, or Deputy Manager.
* Strong knowledge and practical experience of the EYFS framework and early years curriculum planning.
* Demonstrable leadership skills, with experience supervising and supporting early years teams.
* Solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures, with the ability to implement and monitor policies.
* Familiarity with Ofsted standards and expectations, including experience contributing to inspection preparation.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with parents, staff, and external professionals.
* Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
* Confidence in basic budgeting and resource management within an early years setting.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience contributing to or leading quality improvement plans within a nursery or early years environment.
* Previous involvement in delivering or coordinating staff training and professional development.
* Experience supporting children with additional needs and working with external agencies.
* Competence in using nursery management software or digital record-keeping systems.
Qualifications:
* Minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification (or equivalent) – essential.
* Paediatric First Aid certification – essential
* Safeguarding and Child Protection training at an advanced/lead level – preferred.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development in early years leadership, curriculum, or management – desirable.
